Elder Wing Reopening

The Elder Wing of Australian Art is now open to the public after being beautifully refurbished to celebrate the Gallerys 130th anniversary. New displays of Australian pre-colonial, colonial and early twentieth-century art have been unveiled including twenty spectacular new, multi-million dollar works gifted to the Gallery in honour of its anniversary.

Melrose Wing Closure

The Melrose Wing is currently closed to visitors while the Gallery gets ready forSaatchi Gallery in Adelaide, Australias largest exhibition of British contemporary art in more than a decade. After this extraordinary exhibition has closed, the Melrose Wing will undergo a major refurbishment and will remain closed to visitors until early 2012. During the closure, the Gallery will take the opportunity to clean and conserve a number of European paintings from its collection and plan fresh collection displays.

The rest of the Gallery will remain open during the Melrose works program, so visitors can still enjoy the Aboriginal, Australian, Asian and contemporary collections as well as special exhibitions, the bookshop and restaurant.
